Why we love hemp, and why you will too
It should come as no surprise that here at Humbly Hemp, we’re huge fans of hemp! After all, it’s at the foundation of everything we do, everything we believe, and inside everything that we offer. We believe in its health benefits, its contribution to sustainable agriculture, and its overall goodness for the world! Hemp is a nutritional food source, great for body care, a great source of fuel and even for paper -- the possibilities are truly endless. Hemp contains healthy amounts of magnesium, iron, zinc, and potassium, which are all critical to brain function, blood building, the immune system, and muscle function. But what people often want to know is, how does it measure up with regards to its protein power. We’re glad they asked!
Aminos, Omegas and fiber-oh my: the skinny on hemp protein
One thing is for sure, today’s protein seekers have choices. Whey, casein, soy, brown rice, and even pea protein are just a few of the proteins out there on the market. While they certainly all have their benefits, when you compare hemp to the others, it’s hemp that comes out a cut above the rest.
Not only is hemp protein easily digestible and ideal for reducing muscle soreness and inflammation, it’s also plant-based, complete, and organic. Containing essential amino acids your body needs but can’t create on its own, just 1-ounce serving of hemp powder yields a whopping 14 grams of protein (not too shabby!)
But why stop there – let’s talk fiber. Super important for your digestive health and heart health, fiber keeps your blood sugar steady, helps control hunger, and helps fight disease. And while most milk-based or whey-based protein powders provide 1 gram of fiber or less per every 1 ounce serving, hemp boasts 4 grams (four times the fiber!)
Perhaps one of the most important benefits of hemp protein is the inclusion of Omega-3 Fatty Acids EPA and DHA. These dietary fats offer crucial support in the fight against cardiovascular disease, Alzheimer disease, reducing inflammation, and in aiding in fetal development. And guess who’s packed full of fatty acids? You guessed it, our old pal hemp. In fact, just 1-ounce serving of hemp protein gives you the recommended daily dose of the fatty acids you need.
